Nepal lies between India and China, along the southern slopes of the Himalayas and is home to Mount Everest and the world's highest mountains.  Nepal is also associated with Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha, who was born at Lumbini in present-day southern Nepal around the 5th or 6th century BC.

The 2015 Constitution established Nepal as a federal democratic republic, with a federal government, seven provinces, and 753 local governments.  Nepal has a population of about 30 million, and the capital is Kathmandu

The official language is Nepali.  81% of the population are Hindu, 8% Buddhist, 5% Muslim, 3% Kirat, and 2% are Christian

We visited Nepal in Oct 2006.

These pictures are from our old website, and the quality is pretty bad. Sorry.

The street in front of our hotel

Bikes, cars, and people - all on the same sidewalk

Kathmandu has ancient history at every corner

There were these little restaurants everywhere

Glenna buys some beads and bracelets

A body headed to the fire

A family buying some donut like snacks

A busy town square

I have quite a few pictures from Nepal. The file size and quality are very poor, but I don’t want to forget this trip. I have divided the pictures into three groups: city streets, temples, and mountains. The city scenes are mainly Kathmandu, but we did visit several other towns and cities during this trip.

The City Streets

View from our room at the Kathmandu Guest House

I love old doorway pictures

Kathmandu’s 7-11

A mom showing off her daughter

Night draws near, and people head home

Lots of little crowded streets

A street cover by religious flags

Meals on Wheels

This is where we bought our mushrooms and little stick-style toothbrushes

Through the smoke, we could see the remains of a cremation

It had just been washed in the river

A narrow street

A public fountain for water
