Sauvie Island is a large river island located about 10 miles northwest of Portland, at the confluence of the Columbia River and the Willamette River. It is one of the largest river islands in the United States and is known for its rich farmland, wetlands, and scenic natural areas.
Much of the island is protected within the Sauvie Island Wildlife Area, a large habitat that supports migratory birds, waterfowl, deer, and other wildlife. Birdwatchers often visit during migration seasons to see thousands of geese, ducks, and sandhill cranes.
