While we are right on the water’s edge, we are still deep into the jungle
It flew a few feet above us, landed in a tree, let out a few loud, deep barks, and flew away
It was a very dense forest
Honestly, for a broken down old man, this wasn’t easy
Our guide did warn us that if we got lost and hungry, we shouldn’t eat the mushrooms.
Warning Glenna about the hidden cobra
We still had three river crossings, and it was beginning to rain very hard.
We had to stop several times. One time to scrape the leech off Glenna’s foot.
I was dragging at the end and swore that this was my last trip into any jungle.
I said no. I just wanted this thing off the back of my head
The first evening we were there, we saw a Great Hornbill
On our last day, we hired a guide to take us on a jungle trek. The first mile was pretty steep.
I was starting to think that this was a mistake
He was very knowledgeable about the jungle
I am sure it was pretty, but I was hurting.
I thought we were done when we reached the waterfall. But I was mistaken
We were now going downhill. It was wet and slippery, and I was falling almost every other step. I was miserable and wanted to stop and cry. But my Marine Corps wife kept pushing me forward.
That was a fake smile; I was not a happy camper. Glenna, however, loved it.
At the end, our guide asked me if I wanted a hug.
